Like every month it’s time to look at the Top 10 most followed athletes on social media including facebook, twitter and instagram. Who made the cut this month? Check out the infographic below to find out!
This Top 10 is based on the total amount of followers on facebook, twitter and instagram on the 15th of september 2014.
All these athletes are still active in their sport.
First before starting please notice that there was no Top10 last month (august) so this month numbers are being compared with july’s. Also I decided to take out Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson of the monthly rank as he’s definitely more an Hollywood actor now than a WWE athlete. I think it’s fair.
Meanwhile on the top of the rank it’s still the same music. Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is leading by far followed by Messi (still not on Twitter) and Neymar who again is knowing a very fast growth of his fan base.
As someone’s out (Dwayne Johnson if you follow), someone’s in. Welcome back Kobe Bryant but be careful, India’s cricket God Sachin Tandulkar is knocking on the door with more than 26 million followers overall; and he’s not on Instagram yet.
Also it is interesting to notice that Mesut Ozil who earned 2 places compared to july, grew his fan base with 7 million new followers to reach almost 36 million overall. Of course winning the FIFA world cup definitely helped the German midfielder to gain more exposure and despite a “complicated” performance at Arsenal – being an Arsenal fan I think it’s fair to say this – it is obvious that Adidas who is using him a lot for their campaigns helped too. Notice that over the 7 new million followers, 6 are only from facebook. Is someone running facebook ads to grow Ozil fan base? We can think so.
Finally Neymar’s social media audience is still rocketing at pretty much the same pace than Ronaldo. In the last 30 days they both gained almost 1o million new followers each, with Neymar still being the most followed athlete on Instagram with more than 11 million subscribers.
What do think of this month rank? Do you think Kaka will continue his fall and get out of the Top 10 before the end of the year? Do you think Neymar will pass Messi? Let me know in the comments.
I played rugby, I try to play a bit of football sometimes, I like to hit the little yellow ball and I'm a keen cyclist who would love to ride an indoor track once.
